The quick answer

Which window shades work best in Tampa homes?

For most Tampa homes, West Shore Shade suggests roller shades with solar screen fabric in sunny rooms. Blackout roller fabric suits bedrooms. Zebra shades fit living rooms that need flexible light. Woven wood shades add natural texture. We bring real fabric swatches to your free in-home consultation.

One City, Many Kinds of Windows

Tampa is a city of very different neighborhoods. This page covers the whole city, from South Tampa and Seminole Heights to New Tampa and Westchase. Each area has its own homes and its own window problems. We plan designer shades around the house in front of us.

Older areas near the bay have bungalows and 1920s homes. Their windows often come in odd sizes, so we measure each one. Downtown and Channelside have condo towers with floor-to-ceiling glass. Northern suburbs have newer homes with wide sliders and tall great-room windows.

The sun is the common thread. Tampa sits on Tampa Bay, and water reflects light into rooms. West-facing rooms take hard afternoon sun most of the year. Solar screen roller fabric cuts that glare and keeps your view.

Many Tampa homes also have screened lanais and pool cages. Sliders to those spaces are often the widest openings in the house. A 2-on-1 or 3-on-1 roller shade covers them on one headrail. Each section still moves on its own. You can open one panel and keep the others down.

How a Tampa consultation works

We start with a free in-home consultation at a time that suits you. We bring real fabric swatches so you can hold them against your own windows. We check how each window faces and how you use each room. Then we give you a quote in person. Our own crew handles the install, with no subcontractors.

Three styles

Roller, Zebra or Woven Wood?

Every style is custom-made for your windows with chain or cordless lift. Here is how each one fits homes in this area.

Light-filtering roller shades with cassette headrails on tall living room windows

Roller Shades

Roller shades are the most flexible choice for Tampa homes. Solar screen fabrics in 1%, 3%, 5% or 10% openness control glare from the bay and the river. Blackout fabrics suit bedrooms on every side of town.

Zebra shades with alternating sheer and solid bands in a waterfront bedroom

Zebra Shades

Zebra shades use alternating sheer and solid bands in two layers. You line up the bands to let in light or shift them for privacy. They suit living rooms in both older homes and new builds.

Woven Wood Shades

Woven wood shades bring bamboo, ramie, flax and other natural fibers into the room. They suit bungalows and newer homes alike. Add a light-filtering or room-darkening liner for privacy at night.

Room-by-Room Picks for Tampa Homes

  • Living room: Zebra shades let you balance daylight and privacy on street-facing windows.
  • Bedrooms: Blackout roller shades, or the ZeroLux system with side channels for darker rooms.
  • West-facing rooms: Solar screen roller shades in 3% or 5% openness to cut afternoon glare.
  • Kitchen: Light-filtering roller shades that wipe clean and stay out of the way.
  • Home office: Woven wood shades with a light-filtering liner for soft, even light.
Why it matters

Tampa homes face strong sun for much of the year. In the cooling season, about 76% of sunlight on standard double-pane windows becomes heat. That figure comes from the U.S. Department of Energy. Designer shades on sunny windows help limit that heat gain. Read the Energy Saver guide to window coverings.

FAQ

Designer Shade Questions We Hear Locally

Do you serve every Tampa neighborhood?

Yes, we serve homes across Tampa. That includes South Tampa, Hyde Park, Davis Islands, Seminole Heights, Downtown, New Tampa, Carrollwood and Westchase. Our own crew drives from our Gibsonton showroom. We book a free in-home consultation at your home.

Can one company handle both a bungalow and a high-rise condo?

Yes, we fit designer shades in both. Bungalows often have older windows in odd sizes, so we measure each one. Condo towers often have wide glass walls. We pick mounts and fabrics that suit each kind of window.

Are blackout shades fully dark?

Blackout fabric blocks light through the fabric itself. Light can still leak around the edges. For darker rooms, we suggest the ZeroLux system. It uses an enclosed cassette, side channels and a bottom channel to close those gaps.

How do I get a quote?

You book a free in-home consultation by calling (813) 252-6813. We bring real fabric swatches and measure your windows. We give every quote in person at the visit. That way the quote matches your actual windows and choices.
